Martin Nelson

Died in Elliott on Saturday, August 19, 1900, Martin Nelson aged 7 years 11 months 28 day. Funeral Services were held at the United Brethren Church Sunday, at 1:00, Rev. Sibole officiating and the burial was in the Swedish cemetery about 7 miles southeast of town. This death was the result of the most terrible accident which ever happened in Elliott. Little Martin, hearing the local freight train whistle come into town, ran across the track ahead of the train and in some way caught hold of the iron step on the car. He was thrown under the wheels and both legs crushed off. His mother was on the other side of the train and he in this terrible condition tried to crawl under the car to her, but was pulled back by Elmer Thorson, the train having stopped.
