John Anderson

LAID TO REST
It is with sadness that we chronicle the death of John Anderson which occurred at this home Thursday morning, February 10, at the age of 81 years 3 months 20 days. The late deceased has been confined in the house on his farm near Ludlow Township ever since the latter part of July at which time he became completely blind, being deprived of sight until his death. His suffering was great 2 weeks previous to his death. He was attended during his illness by his pastor, Rev. Johnson, and received from him the last rites of the Lutheran church, of which he was a worthy member. On Sunday morning at the residence the remains of the deceased were viewed by the surrounding relatives and friends and after a last farewell, were carried to the hearse by the following pall bearers: C. F. Carlson, O. Nelson, C. Johnson, Jonas Skog, C.A. Ostrom, and C. Parker. At 11:30 the church was filled with the friends of the deceased. The casket lay in the accustomed place and over it were many beautiful floral offerings contributed by relatives and friends. After the singing of hymns, Rev. Johnson who had charge of the services, spoke in the Swedish and English languages of the upright life of the deceased. The services were brief and impressive. "God be with you till we meet again" and "Nearer my God to thee" were rendered in a beautiful manner by the Lindahl's quartette. The remains were interred in Farmersville cemetery where a large assemblage of friends had congregated to pay their last tribute of earthly respect to the memory of a man well known and highly esteemed. Those who attended the funeral from abroad were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Godey and children Willie and Laura of Chicago. Mrs. Godey is a daughter of the deceased. The grandchildren, Mrs. E. F. Johnson and Florence Stillman of Paxton, also attended.
The deceased was born in Sweden October 20, 1816. He was married in 1842 to Anna B. Pearson. In 1854 he came to this country and for the past 33 years has lived on his farm in Ludlow township. His wife died in 1881. He was the father of 6 children, 4 of whom are living.
